New York Supermodel Interactions

Project Runway @ The High Line, NYC. An interactive installation with animated judges, celebrating one of America's favourite TV shows. With Nexus Interactive Arts. (Photo by Liz Ligon)

I was asked to join Nexus Interactive Arts as technical director & lead developer for a project celebrating the 10th season of one of America’s most successful TV shows. Collaborating with NIA director Evan Boehm, I developed a video sequencer system that could react to user interaction and automatically find the quickest connection between pre-defined video movements, while keeping a natural look and feel for the live-action-footage based animation.

Max Worgan created what is now known as the “human tracking” interface, and Dave Meckin joined the developer team as sound and SuperCollider artist.

The installation was received with enthusiasm by visitors and park rangers on the High Line elevated park in New York, and generated press at a VIP party (The Wall Street Journal in print and online, Hollywood Reporter, etc.), which, in turn, generated happy clients.

In due course of the project an attempt was made to popularise Dijkstra’s algorithm in advertising circles.
